5 years ago, on my way to Rameshwaram and its surrounding scenic places, came across this man-made stone wall near #Dhanushkodi, located amidst an eerily haunting silence, often broken by only the sea-waves crashing at it or by ill mannered tourists like us. The moment I looked at this make shift wall, I felt a sense of defiance and pride in its existence. And the silence, though haunting, had its own flavor of a serene calmness. A place with a personality.
While this memorable trip with Manas, Gaurang and Abhinav was over in 2 days, but the spell this single spot had cast over me never probably vanished, much like a reminder to our friendship.
A few months later I watched one of the most soul stirring movies of all time- The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty, and I kept reliving the most divine experience of this stone wall, in every shot where Walter was visiting mesmerizing landscapes of Iceland.
That's the power of a place as an element in Storytelling, one of the most underrated factors often.
If you can feel, visualize and recreate the magic yourself in your mind, so can you make your audience feel as well.
Storyteller's Tip:
"Treat a place in your story as a character, and it will do you a great service as a Storyteller."
