What is mankind's biggest flaw?
I believe it to be the GREED. Greed for power, status, and money. Because that's been the traditional measure of success, isn't it? But even the whole universe may fall short to quench one man's thirst. And despite the shortlived success, his greed eventually drags him down the rabbit hole, on the highway to hell. Well, that's the whole premise of this gripping thriller from Marathi cinema. An underappreciated yet captivating epic from 2017, it displays a technically superior value, felt abundantly in the pristine period vibes. Though small scale, but it boasts of some smartly constructed haunting set designs and a fast paced plot, putting the usual big budget Bollywood duds of horror genre to shame. Acting is top notch, specially by child actors. But the best thing about the whole piece is where heart of the whole premise lies. I'll not ruin it with any spoilers, but I would say this much. Yes, there exists an actual monster named 'Hastar' and it has the legend of a supernatural curse. But the greater monster is symbolised by the unsatiable Greed of mankind itself. And that's the brilliant take away for audience of all ages. Overall, if you are a fan of horror genre, it's a must watch from Indian film industry. Probably the only smart and worthy entry since Vishal Bharadwaj's 'Makadi'. Go for it without a second thought. And if you have seen it already, share your opinion in comments below. Do it varna Hastar aa jayega.
